About Us

Who We Are

The story, purpose, and people behind the Greater Ghanaian Community of Kansas City.

Who we are

A family of families

The Greater Ghanaian Community of Kansas City is a volunteer-led organization made up of Ghanaian families and friends living across the Kansas City metro — from Kansas City and Independence, Missouri, to Overland Park and Olathe, Kansas. Many of us met through church, through work, or through a friend of a friend, and over time our WhatsApp group grew into something that felt like home.

This website is placeholder content until our planning committee approves the final wording — but the heart of it is simple: we are neighbors who look out for one another, and we want every Ghanaian family in the metro to know they have a community here.

Our Story

Brief history & background

The Greater Ghanaian Community of Kansas City began as a small circle of families gathering for birthdays, funerals, and Sunday visits. As more Ghanaians made Kansas City home, that circle grew into regular meetings, seasonal celebrations, and — eventually — a planning committee dedicated to organizing it all. Today, this website marks our next chapter: a shared home online, built and approved by our own committee, for our own community.
